Located in the serene district of Cimiez, the Franciscan Church and Monastery of Nice (also known as the Monastery of Our Lady of Cimiez, or, in French, Monastere Notre Dame de Cimiez) is even at present populated by a small community of Franciscan friars. The key tourist highlight of the monastery refers to the Franciscan Museum which shelters a collection of exhibits meant to unveil to the public the way of life observed by the Franciscan monks along the centuries. The church which is part of this monastic assembly is also referred to as the Church of the Assumption (Eglise Notre Dame de l’Assomption).
The cemetery of the church is where Henri Matisse, Raoul Dufy and Roger Martin du Gard are buried.
