The esplanade bears the name of Francis Giordan, a public figure of Nice involved in the building of the Acropolis. Given his achievements for the city, Nice thought it proper to name a public venue after him.
The esplanade is located in the vicinity of the Acropolis, about half way between Port de Nice and Vieux Nice. It is a splendid sight all tourists can enjoy admiring or where they can relax. It is dotted with lines of greenery and decorative sculptural works, but its uniqueness is yielded by the spectacular water jets which call forth the controversial myth of the UFO encounters.
The esplanade was inaugurated in 1984, at the same time with the Acropolis.
