The Church of Saint Jacques le Majeur, dubbed the Church of Gesu, is nestled between the Cathedral of Sainte Reparate and Palais Lascaris, in the hugely popular Vieux Nice.
The construction works were initiated in 1607, but they were completed only 43 years later, in 1650. The church was entrusted to the Jesuit order of Nice, and since its construction until now it had undergone little or no modification of the original structure. The edifice is said to embody one of the most exquisite expressions of the Baroque art of decoration in Nice.
