There are several public beaches in Nice, usually nestled between the private beaches of the city. Visitors come here and lie on their own towels or can rent a lounge chair in order to increase the comfort and the quality of their moment at the beach. Obviously, they are less expensive than the private beaches, but despite this advantage, they tend to be construed as a compromise, since they confine to being fitted only with basic facilities (toilets, showers).
On the other hand, locals seem not to be bothered about the lack or scarcity of certain amenities (lockers, changing rooms, sports facilities and the like) which are held in great respect by tourists, in particular by vacationers who want to make the best of their stay in Nice without the feeling of having missed out the peak experiences of the capital of the French Riviera only for the sake of the budget.
The public beaches of Nice remain, however, a solution at hand for budget travelers, which is always nice to envisage.
Neighboring on the Neptune Beach and on the Blue Beach, Plage Poublique du Volilier is also close attractions like the Massena Museum and the Museum of Fine Arts of Nice. A restaurant and a kids' playground can be spotted on Plage du Voilier.
The Beau Rivage Public Beach neighbors on the namesake private beach. It is one of the most popular public beaches in Nice, a feature reflected in the crowds who show up on the beach from early in the morning.
Located in front of the Lenval Hospital, the Lenval Beach is a reasonably high rated public beach in Nice. It is fitted with the basic facilities (toilets, showers) and visitors have the opportunity to practice windsurfing. Motorized water crafts are completely forbidden. Plage de Lenval is highly popular with locals.
Carras Beach is the only beach in Nice where visitors can bring their pets, the special dog-friendly area being clearly marked and, thus, easily distinguishable from the rest of the beach (it is called Site de la Lanterne). It is also one of the few beaches fitted for the needs of the disabled.
Located close to the airport, it is the westernmost beach in Nice, offering the opportunity to rent jet-skis.
The Sainte Helene Beach is fitted such as to enable the access and the easy passage of people with reduced mobility. It is located in west Nice, close to the Carras Beach and, just like Plage de Carras, it is not a crowded beach. This feature renders it recommendable for people who don't appreciate the bustle characteristic of the beaches located in east Nice.
